Low Running Costs

What our customers are saying...

"We have had huge success with the heated glass, people are amazed. We have now fully tenanted the development and people can not believe how low their energy bills are. The combination of the SIPS walls and heated glass make the perfect couple, as the heat my tenants produce they keep, thus lowering expected bills by as much as 70%."

We did some meter testing during the winter and got the following results:

  • One studio apartment measuring 70m3
  • 24hours with windows and heated mirrors on 21 degrees cost's £0.72p

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to using your product on all my developments nationwide.

Extremely Low Running Costs

Based on physical running costs and degree days data an independent UK engineer calculated that huge savings can be made by using Heated Glass based on the efficiency and controllability of the product. Engineers calculated that savings of up to 50% can be made.

The lower required air temperatures required to achieve “thermal comfort” and “zoneabilty” of the system result in unparalleled performance.

Using degree days data and required wattages for each room from Finnglass Engineers, an independent UK engineer calculated that huge savings can be made by using Heated Glass. Engineers calculated that savings of up to 50% can be made.

This results from the extremely low energy consumption Heated Glass requires in order to heat a room to the optimum temperature. The low energy consumption required is a product of the high thermal comfort achieved by the glass; the radiant heat produced by the glass and the zonability of the heating system.

Zonability

Another way to utilise the system benefits and reduce the running costs is to heat only the rooms which are being occupied and therefore need to be heated – ie the downstairs during the day and the upstairs during the evening. Again this offers considerable scope for saving on running costs as no energy is wasted heating rooms which are not needed.

Finnglass UK have spent over a year developing pioneering software with Intelligent Homes. The colour coded interface shows the temperature that each zone has been pre-set to, as well as live feedback of actual room temperatures. The AMX based system offers the user touch of a button wireless control of the temperature of each zone in their property. This system has now been developed to be controlled by the clients iPad.

Low Energy Tariffs

Moreover, Low Energy Tariffs can be used to further reduce the running cost. This involves heating each room to the optimum temperature when the cost of energy is at its lowest. The high insulative properties of Heated Glass are revolutionary as a staggering 93% of the heat generated by the glass is retained. It is therefore possible to use timers to heat rooms when the energy tariffs are low ie. just before occupants wake or return from work and still retain a comfortable and warm home environment.

The world is currently striving to find the renewable energy source of the future, our philosophy however is to simply use less!

Feed in Tariffs

Developers are now looking to combine heated glass systems with solar energy and Feed-In-Tarriffs. Heated glass, when incorporating solar, can be completely self sufficient effectively delivering the Suns energy around a development when and where it is required, whilst the owner still receives their credits for the power they are using. The extra energy produced by the solar panels in the summer can be credited to the grid to be used as a ‘top-up’ in the winter. When heated glass is combined with solar energy, the system can be designed to be 100% self sufficient.
